Crazy but True
What’s a completely useless fact you love sharing?

When I was 8 years old I bought the Crazy but True fact book above. For a fair while afterwards I would regale family and friends with my favourite facts to the point of boredom (for them not for me!) because I was so fascinated by the book. To be honest I am surprised it was never lost in any of my many moves. You’re going to be glad it wasn’t as I will share not one but ten fascinating facts. I bet you can’t wait 🤣
- Up to 1900 café owners near Stonehenge gave tourists a hammer and chisel with their food and drink so they could take their own piece of the monument back home!
- The scientist Hegel published his proof that there could be no more than seven planets the week before the discovery of the eighth.
- The Twentieth Century began on January 1st 1901. To be fair I continuously repeated this fact from a few months before the beginning of the year 2000 to the early months of 2001, the proper marking of the Millennium. For some reason this made me unpopular 🤔🤣
- In April 1906 a head on collision occurred Redruth Cornwall. It was between the only two cars in the town at the time.
- Queen Victoria’s first royal proclamation was that all 80 of her dogs be given a bath!
- Pineapples are large berries.
- The word school comes from the Greek word ‘Schole’ which actually means leisure.
- A war between Great Britain and Zanzibar on August 27th 1896 lasted 38 minutes!
- Cinderella’s slipper was made of fur in the first story published in France in 1844.
- Thomas Young, an 18th century scientist could speak 12 languages by the age of 8!
I hope you enjoyed that selection of weird and wonderful facts. There’s hundreds more where they came from! It’s been a great trip down memory lane for me and probably an education for you 🤣🤣
