The Answer is in the Question
What’s a conspiracy theory you actually find believable?
According to Britannica.com ‘A conspiracy theory is an attempt to explain a harmful or tragic event as the result of secret activities by a small but powerful group, rejecting the official narrative.’
People who believe conspiracy theories ignore the evidence in front of them and instead look to attribute real events to shady groups. As they have no basis in fact the supporters of nonsense say that the evidence against is evidence of the conspiracy because the rich and powerful are conspiring to keep the real evidence away from the public 🙄
There have always been conspiracy theories but they have been supercharged by the Internet in the last 20 years or so. Old conspiracy theories such as the Kennedy Assassination and man not having walked on the moon have been joined by those surrounding the Covid pandemic and 15 minute cities.
So, by definition, none of the conspiracy theories can possibly hold any water and I have wasted enough time on the subject!!

There are also the ones which end up being true, like Saville, WMD, etc. Hardly surprising that outlandish ideas are believed given the level of trust in officialdom and “the system”. Of course, most “theories” are complete bs, but I certainly wouldn’t believe the official narrative on anything as an act of faith, even if most of this stuff is complete guff (flat earth for example).

As you often fo, you have managed to find a flaw in my unhedged argument. I never know where it’s going to be, but I hope you always keep me on my toes. I had forgotten about Saville, although WMDs were surely more cover up than conspiracy weren’t they,

Well, it is a “talent” of mine am afraid. Cover up or conspiracy it just goes to show. I think Jeremy Paxman put it well when he said one should often think of our corrupt rulers ‘How is this lying b@#** lying to me now?’.🤣

So true. Yes, the number of lies the powerful tell is what has led to this, but Hanlon’s razor is a useful guide here. It states ‘Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity!’ A marvellous rule for life that!!
